Festival history

The Thanet Music and Drama Festival was founded as a charity in 1921, and each year offers a platform for hundreds of amateur musicians, actors and dancers in and around the Thanet area to perform in front of an audience and gain expert critical advice.

Each of the previous festivals going back to 2002 has a dedicated page on this site, please use the links on the right.

In case any past participants etc. would like a syllabus or programme from a previous festival as a souvenir, we have some available. There is no charge - just send a stamped addressed envelope - but please check first whether we have copies for the particular year(s) in which you are interested.

The 2006 syllabus is now available as a free download (4MB Adobe Acrobat PDF file: for those without broadband we recommend the 1MB text-only version). Printed copies will also be distributed to local teachers, libraries, and others on our mailing list.

The Festival is run by a core committee of around 15 and approximately 35 other volunteers. We are always looking for helpers, both during the festival itself and in the preparatory stages. No matter how restricted your time may be, if you would like to help we'll certainly find something for you to do, so get in touch! People who like paperwork are also particularly welcome!
