Thanet festival 2011

Once again the Festival revealed just how much talent abounds in Thanet...

We kicked off with the Speech and Drama section in its new venue at the Sarah Thorne where we enjoyed three full days of mime, readings, Shakespeare, Dickens, poetry, monologues, improvisations, duologues and choral speech. Changing the timing to encompass the weekend was not only better for those taking part, but also enabled larger audiences to attend.

The Piano section had to take place on the same Saturday this year; some entrants even dashing between the two, but we have sorted it better for 2012.

Dance had their usual 5 hectic days full to the brim with tap, ballet, national, character, song & dance and modern; solos, duets, trios, quartets and troupes, and all ages from "babies" to adults. Something for everyone and I think everyone was there.

Vocal and Choral also changed their timings slightly, using the evenings so as not to disrupt school-work. As with all the sections, the advice given by the adjudicator is so useful that it benefits everyone present, not just those competing...

With the Instrumental section over, the final preparations for the Gala concert were made. This was held, for the second year running, at the Sarah Thorne Theatre which was packed to the gunnels with performers, award winners, their family and friends, and a row of VIPs including our prize-giver, Laura Sandys MP. They were treated to an excellent evening’s entertainment; a pot-pourri from all five Festival sections and from all age groups. A wonderful way to end a celebration of Thanet talent...
